No, I am a Control Systems and Software Engineer in the Cybernetics Department of RACE, UKAEA, and my job is very diverse, so I get to do work of different types of engineer depending on the project.

Sometimes I am working purely with software, sometimes I am helping design the control systems, sometimes I am getting robotic components or different robots to work with each other, and sometimes I am doing more research based projects.

This diversity is part of the reason why I love my job so much.

I sometimes wonder if I should have done an engineering degree rather than a physics one, as I think mechanical engineers do really cool things. But I don’t think I really regret it, as physics was the thing I found most interesting when I was choosing a degree, and I wanted to spend 4 years of my life at university working on something I thought was cool and interesting. 🙂 And at the end of the day, it got me to where I am now, and I can work on building up some of the engineering skills I missed through working with talented people and learning from them!
